DIRECTORS’ DAY with Nottingham Playhouse & the JMK Trust
Neville Studio
3 June – FREE
JMK and Nottingham Playhouse are partnering to create a local hub for directors to come together, share skills and provide training opportunities. We’re planning on bringing guest directors in for future workshops, and some of you will have already taken part in some of the online workshops earlier this year. Next up on 3 June, we’d like to invite you to come together at Nottingham Playhouse in the Neville Studio, for a day of conversation, play and skills sharing, facilitated by Hannah Lucy Stone, with Dr. Tilly Branson leading the afternoon workshop. Whatever stage of your directing career, you’re welcome to join and share your experience and experiences with others who are navigating similar seas.
You can attend either the morning or afternoon session, or come along for the full day: this event has limited places, those with access needs will be prioritised for the afternoon session
Session 1: 10.30am-1.30pm Directors In Conversation Open Space facilitated by Hannah Stone Hannah Lucy Stone is a theatre maker, director and creative producer interested in work created by women with three dimensional, funny, playful female protagonists. She is Co-Artistic Director of The Gramophones, SHEWOLVES and Associate Artist of Nottingham Playhouse
For the morning session please bring along a provocation – a challenge you’re having in your practice, or in your career.
Session 2: 2.30-5pm How to Run a Safe and Accessible Rehearsal Room, a workshop with Dr. Tilly Branson Tilly Branson is a director, dramaturg and producer, with over ten years experience working with writers and new writing. She is the co-founder of the Chronically ill Artists Network, Pentabus Board Inclusivity and Relevance Champion, and a member of Nottingham Playhouse’s Access Working Group.
For the afternoon, Tilly will be focusing on how to run a safe and accessible rehearsal room. In this workshop we’ll share our ideas of what a safe, accessible and wellbeing-focussed rehearsal room might look like, and think about ways to make that a reality. We’ll discuss useful things to have in our (real and metaphorical) directing toolkits, and come up with some collective solutions to difficult rehearsal room situations that may arise. If you have a particular challenge from the rehearsal room in mind, please do bring that on the day.
We will be practising safe social distancing at these workshops – please be aware that windows may be open in the afternoon session for air flow purposes.
To get involved, please sign up by completing the form below.
