Making Theatre Sustainable Workshop

Saturday 24th June, 11am – 1.30pm

New Vic Theatre, Stoke

We would like to invite you to come together at New Vic Theatre on the 24th June, for a workshop dedicated to sustainable theatre practice, in association with Katie Mitchell’s HEADLONG production of A Play for the Living In A Time for Extinction which is being staged and directed by Eleanor Taylor at the New Vic Theatre as part of it’s innovative, sustainable UK tour. Eleanor will be running this workshop on what sustainable theatre practice really means, and how directors can begin to stage productions in a more sustainable way, followed by a Q&A.  Whatever stage of your directing career, you’re welcome to join this exciting new workshop.

OPTIONAL *Please prepare a short directing pitch to share with the group. Taking a play you would love to direct, how could you adapt your approach to staging this play so it was more sustainable in practice? What is the most sustainable version of your show?

We encourage participants to take a look at the Theatre Green Book ahead of this session  https://theatregreenbook.com

JMK directors are being offered a ticket deal as part of this workshop – more details will be sent via the JMK mailing network – if you have not already, please sign up to the relevant mailing list via the red banner at the bottom of this screen.

Eleanor is a director and writer, currently directing A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction for Headlong Theatre Company at the New Vic Theatre. Previous directing credits include Plastic Band (Gala Durham), On The Brink (Vienna English Theatre), Cabinet of Curiosities (New Vic Theatre Studio) and Much Ado About Nothing (Northern Opera Group). She’s also an experienced Associate Director. Credits include The Worst Witch (UK Tour / Vaudeville Theatre), All My Sons (Lyric Theatre, Hong Kong), The Crown: Live (UK / USA Tour) and she is currently the Associate on Potted Potter. Prior to this, Eleanor was the Resident Assistant Director at the New Vic Theatre from 2017 – 18.

This free JMK event is open to all.  There are limited spaces available, allocated on a first come first served basis.  You will be notified whether you have a place as soon as possible: if after that you are unable to attend, please notify us asap so that your place can be offered to another.
