#JMKSpace Writer in the Room

May 6, 2020 by Stephen Fewell

Devising Theatre

What is a ‘Writer in the Room’?

with

Adam Peck

Drawing mainly on his experience of working with director Sally Cookson, in a devised theatre context, Adam aims to explore the meaning of the term ‘dramaturg‘, and get to the bottom of what it means for a theatre director to have a ‘writer-in-the-room’.

Please send in any questions you may have about dramaturgy/the writer in the room ahead of the event, so these can be considered by Adam.

This #JMKSpace event is open to all.  It takes the place of our directors’ groups normally hosted by Reading Rep, Salisbury Playhouse, Bristol Old Vic and The Nuffield Theatres.

The workshop will take place 2.30-4.30pm on Friday May 29th on Zoom, facilitated by Nik Partridge.

To reserve your free place, and receive a Zoom invitation, please email– nik@jmktrust.org

If you have any access requirements, need technical support or have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact nik@jmktrust.org

More #JMKSpace open-access events to be announced soon.

Adam Peck is a playwright. Over the past ten years or so, his work has focused mainly on collaborating with other theatre makers to author plays. He sees himself as one of the authors in a room of theatre-makers: the facilitator of the writing process, the editor, and the one responsible for ensuring the piece makes sense.

Adam is a playwright and dramaturg, and has been an Associate Artist at Bristol Old Vic since 2013. In 2019, his devised adaptation of A Monster Calls won an Olivier Award.
